Milking My Creativity

This week I moved my creative office to my Uncle Rory’s milk barn…. Where his creative office is! Doesn’t sound like much but it’s a big deal to me. He’s a creator, a writer and a film maker…. like I want to be. I know some of you may be saying, “But Mikel, you’re already a creator and a writer!” and I thank you for that, but I want to be a great storyteller…… Like he is.

I noticed a few weeks back half his office was empty. I had been talking to my wife about possibly finding a place for my office to help me separate work and home life a bit…..And Holy Cow did God answer that one!

It’s a small barn at the front corner of his lot built probably in the early 1900’s for milking cows. I would say sometime in the early 2000’s he went in and made it a space he could use. I believe at first he used it for a gym, (during the day mostly because it didn’t have power,) then he moved a couch in and added a little bit of drywall to a few walls to keep the cold out and started writing his songs in there. Over the years he kept working on it. Eventually getting power ran, then heat and air installed, to what it is now, an amazing place to bring dreams to life.

To sit back and milk your creativity!

I think God knows I would only dream as big as the people I surround myself with. He knows how I am driven. He knows if I was around people who were just ok with life and getting by then I would probably do the same. I would still have a desire to be better, and do great things, but I would do like I did for so many years and suppress it.

Since the day I got out of rehab over 4 years ago I have been surrounded by folks that aren’t afraid to dream. They were ok with life, and most of them did what they had to to get by, but they dreamed, and they acted on it with a sense of fearlessness, because they had God on there side. Constantly seeking his purpose for them, they were unafraid to act on their dreams, knowing if it were what God wanted then it would work itself out.

Proverbs 16:3

“Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.” King James Version (KJV)

Last year when I picked up a camera, I didn’t see myself where I am now. Not this fast! Not that I have achieved anything amazing, just finding filmmaking and realizing it do be a passion, then beginning to explore and dream of what it could be and to see it progress to where I am now is just crazy to me. I’ve spent most of my life taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back. Lately I’ve been taking leaps forward. Almost faster than I can keep up!

It won’t be long before I’m making some awesome cheese! I can feel it!
